CNC Routing:
Walnut and Maple Wall Art
(Disclosure: I have no affiliation with 343 Studios or any entities where the names “Halo” or “Halo 5” are used to represent the work of 343 and it’s affiliates. I make these props in good faith with the “fair use” clause which sees to protect makers such as myself. Fair use applies so long as we do not distribute or intend to distribute work claiming to be - or that could be mistaken by deception for - officially licensed products.)
Each piece begins with a digital 3D model of the intended subject. That model is imported into a program called Vectric Aspire where it is negotiated into a 3D representation of the material being machined. This creates processes (tool paths) generated in gcode - the language that all CNC machines operate on.
Each tool path represents a different action with a specific router bit/orientation. After all paths are complete, the piece is ready for final finishing.
